The animal kingdom must have a vendetta against the airline business. In October, a plane crash survivor blamed an escaped crocodile for a jet’s mysterious plummet from the skies above the Congo; that same month, officials at the Denver International Airport accused rascally rabbits of chomping on soy-based car parts in its Pikes Peak Shuttle parking lot; and yesterday, a Manchester Terrier who bit two people onboard a US Airways flight from Newark to Phoenix convinced the pilot to make an emergency pit stop in Pittsburgh.
The pooch – a 12-pound dog named Mandy, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – was let loose from her carrier mid-flight and bit one passenger and one flight attendant. Although the bites were minor, the pilot decided to land and find medical attention for the two victims.

After last month’s volcano chaos that shut down the skies over Europe, Iceland Express is making amends with travelers by offering unheard of rates on round-trip transatlantic flights for just $399. Throughout the month of June, fly from Newark to London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Krakow, Oslo, Warsaw, Luxembourg, Gothenburg, and more. These fares include all taxes and fees and are available nearly every day – perhaps making this the best deal on peak-season flights to Europe thus far this year. Tickets must be purchased by June 21, for travel though June 30.
THE VALUE: Flights to Europe have skyrocketed this year. The lowest rates on competitor airlines range from $950-$1,600 (or more) so this deal easily saves you well over $500. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find these prices during the chilly off-season months.
THE CATCH: The flight isn’t direct. You’ll stopover in Reykjavik (Iceland’s capital).
THE DETAILS: Book this deal at icelandexpress.com.

A sagging economy and struggling airline industry make rather unlikely parents to a new airline, but the folks over at JetAmerica are ready to put their baby on the market all the same. The new low-cost, Clearwater, Florida-based carrier is slated to launch services on July 13, with rock-bottom fares from just $9 offered on each and every flight. Set to target six mid-sized U.S. cities that it believes other larger carriers have overlooked, several conveniently offer easy access to major metropolitan areas, to boot. Look for JetAmerica to touch down in a city near you: Newark, NJ (New York City); Melbourne, FL (Orlando); Toledo, OH (Detroit); Minneapolis, MN; South Bend, IN; and Lansing, MI are currently on the bargain airline’s roster.
