SkyMall Tuesday: Pugz Shoes

December 11th, 2012 by

Pugz shoes dogs bootsWe love dogs here at SkyMall Tuesday HQ. We have two of our own. They’re both rescues. So we appreciate random dog cuteness. We’re very pro-dog. However, we’re pretty anti-dog clothing. Sure, some small dogs that can’t keep themselves warm might require a coat on cold winter days. But sweaters for indoor use? Costumes? Booties? That’s all so unnecessary and vain. Don’t get me wrong, though. I understand that the salt and sand that is scattered on roads and sidewalks to prevent people from slipping on ice can really hurt a dog’s paws. It’s a nuisance that dog owners dread every winter. It’s a real issue that needs to be avoided. But that doesn’t mean that you need to force your dogs to wear lame accessories. Walk around the salt. Coat your dogs paws in Vaseline before you head outside. Walk them through the snow to clean off any irritants. Do anything else but navigate over to SkyMall and purchase a set of Pugz Shoes.

Cat PortraitNo one respects and appreciates the inventors of SkyMall products more than I do. Simply having a brilliant idea is not enough to be enshrined in the annals of SkyMall lore. It requires dedication, hard work, and the willingness to solve problems that no one knew they had until they were told that those problems were a real thing. When choosing which products to feature as part of SkyMall Tuesday, I seek out those inventions that are on the cutting edge of innovation and design. Most are as close to perfect as something created by mere mortals could possibly be. That’s why I rarely offer suggestions for improving on them. Just as I would never tell Michelangelo how to paint, instruct Leonardo on his designs, or coach Donatello on what to do with his boring bō staff, I prefer to avoid intruding on the creative process of the SkyMall masters. However, this week, I cannot bite my tongue. It’s incredibly frustrating when a product is so close to greatness and stops short of reaching that summit. So, this week, allow me to nitpick about the Custom Pet Canvas.

SkyMall Dog StrollerI’m overdue for a good SkyMall Tuesday rant. It’s not as easy as you think to find the positives in every single SkyMall product. It often takes a great deal of soul searching, probing, and alcohol. This week, however, I just don’t have the strength to put up the fight (also, drinking at the office is strongly discouraged). So, instead, I’m going to vent a bit. Here we go: pet strollers are idiotic. They’re mind-bogglingly insane. Dogs are living things. They are (in most instances) ambulatory when left to their own devices thanks to the propulsion created by what we in the science biz call legs. They happen to have four of them, which is double (or 100 percent more) than we have. THEY CAN WALK! They can run. They can jump. Why are people pushing able-bodied dogs around in strollers when these animals need exercise, enjoy going for walk, and even benefit from the occasional run? Because people are just terrible. And so is the Pet Gear Travel System. Read more

DogWe’re crazy about our pets–and the White House is too. But just because Bo is getting all the special attention doesn’t mean that your pooch can’t be treated the same as “First Dog.” We’ve found some unique hotels and packages that cater to man’s best friend—with some interesting amenities to boot (or would that be to paw?)

Each guestroom at The Resort at the Mountain, in Mt. Hood, Oregon comes stocked with freshly baked homemade dog treats, dog dish, bottled water, and a dog-friendly hiking trail map, making your pet feel like White House royalty. Pampering your pooch doesn’t end there—the “First Dog” package includes a $30 credit towards a Canine Cuisine entrée from the in-room dining menu.
