Disney Cruise Line has recently announced itineraries and ports for 2013, which include the exciting return of European cruises and a new home port in Miami. And although the news for 2012 is not quite as recent, this year is nevertheless a big year for Disney Cruise Line as well, from the March debut of the Disney Fantasy (one of our 2012 best cruise picks) to the introduction of three new home ports – some of which will no longer be used in 2013. As such, here’s a breakdown of what’s to come in 2013, and a reminder list of 2012’s options, so you can be sure to join Disney at the port-of-call that strikes your fancy.
New in 2012
New York City, New York: Starting this year, you can choose from several cruise itineraries that call NYC their home port: The 8-night Bahamian cruise (with Walt Disney World day trip included), the 5-night New England and Canadian coastal cruise, or the 2-night get-away-from-it-all New York Weekend Getaway Cruise. Note, though, that none of the New York City itineraries are available in 2013.
Seattle, Washington: The popular 7-night Alaskan cruises are using Seattle as a home port this year, rather than 2011’s home port of Vancouver. Seattle fans should note, however, that starting in 2013, Disney’s opting for Vancouver again, so get your Seattle-based Alaskan cruises while you can!
Galveston, Texas: The addition of Galveston as a home port comes with the addition of 7-night Caribbean cruises with ports-of-call in Grand Cayman and Mexico’s Costa Maya, among others.
Los Angeles, California: This home port isn’t new, but the Hawaiian itinerary is. For the first time, Disney will take you from L.A. to Hawaii, with plenty of days at sea. Disney will no longer be cruising out of L.A. in 2013, however, so hop on a Hawaii-, Mexico-, or West Coast-bound cruise while they’re still available.
New in 2013
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada: Remember those Seattle cruises to Alaska? Well, in 2013, they are no more. Instead, the 7-night Alaskan cruises will be leaving from Vancouver.
Miami, Florida: Miami is joining Port Canaveral as the second home port in Florida. 4- and 5-night Caribbean and Bahamian cruises will leave from Miami, or you can opt for the 14-night Panama Canal cruise that leaves from Miami and ends in L.A., with ports-of-call in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Galveston, Texas: Galveston will be an even busier port in 2013, with 6- and 8- night Western Caribbean itineraries and the introduction of a 14-night Transatlantic cruise to Barcelona, with stops at Disney’s private Caribbean island Castaway Cay, the Portuguese Island of Madeira in the Atlantic, and Gibraltar.
Barcelona, Spain: After a hiatus from Europe in 2012, Disney is returning in 2013 with Mediterranean itineraries, all with Barcelona as home port. There are 4-, 7-, and 12-night cruises available, with ports-of-call in varying locations from Nice, France to Florence, Italy to Athens, Greece.
The 2013 itineraries are bookable as of last Thursday, January 26, so if you’re looking to enjoy a Disney cruise this year or next, get planning!
