People have flocked to Los Cabos for decades for its laid-back attitude and craggy coastal beauty. But this Mexican resort area, which receives more than two million visitors each year, is also emerging as an arts destination.

San José del Cabo's Gallery District has fourteen galleries and is home to a popular weekly art walk, as well as the annual Los Cabos International Film Festival held every November.

The fifth edition of the film festival is currently taking place, and ends on November 12. A wide selection of American, Mexican, and Canadian films are being screened over a four-day period. We had a chance to attend opening night, which included a screening of the film Jackie, which stars Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in the wake of her husband's death. Other films being screened include Snowden and Captain Fantastic.

In addition to the screenings, the festival will feature special tributes to director Oliver Stone and Mexican cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto. Italian actress Monica Bellucci will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award and singer Natalia Lafourcade will perform a concert for attendees.
