From $72: Travel Deals for September and October

by  Kristine Hansen | Jul 15, 2016

Once school is back in session, hotel rates drop at most vacation destinations, providing savings that are worthy of a midweek getaway or long-weekend trip. Whether your idea of relaxing is by a pool in the California desert or getting a new passport stamp, here are five deals under $150 to swoon over for September and October travel.

From $72: Real Inn (Cancun, Mexico)
Say “adios” to Cancun’s massive resorts and "hola" to this contemporary boutique hotel. Located right on the beach in the city’s Hotel Zone, rates for an executive room are as low as $72-$80 for weeknights in September and October; that's considerable savings when you factor in that rooms are priced from $105 at the end of July. For eats on property, pop into Stock Café for both Mexican and international cuisine or head to the lobby bar for some imbibing. Additional amenities include an outdoor pool, free WiFi, and free parking.

From $93: Miramonte Resort & Spa, A Destination Hotel (Indian Wells, CA)
Yes, it’s hot in the Palm Desert in September, but thankfully pools are in abundance -- including at this resort, which is fresh off a $4 million renovation that refreshed the guestrooms and social areas. For stays through September 30, the Exclusive Summer promotion cuts nightly rates by 25 percent and throws in a $25 spa credit and daily $25 dining credit; book using code SUMMER16. We test drove the promotion and found estate king rooms for $93, available for the nights of September 4-8 and 11-15. Without the offer, those same rooms are priced from $105 and don't include the spa and dining credits; in February's high season, expect rates that are at least $100 more.

From $116: The Inn at Key West (Key West, FL)
How about some time in the Sunshine State? The Inn at Key West has some ultra-attractive rates for September. On most weeknights, standard rooms under the non-refundable rate go for as low as $116-$134; it even includes a $25 food and beverage credit. If your schedule can't be set in stone, pay $129-$149 for the best flexible rate instead -- still about a 50 percent discount compared to winter rates (think: $299 in late January).

From $119: Low/shoulder season rates in Vail, CO
Vail isn't just a great destination for skiing: fantastic fall activities here include hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the food scene. Its low/shoulder season falls in September and October, meaning you can score accommodations for a fraction of what it costs during more popular times. For example, valley view rooms with two queen beds at Evergreen Lodge are up for grabs for $119 per night -- down from $299 in February. There are bargains to be had at Tivoli Lodge, too, where you can book a standard village room for $169 in September and October -- compared to $459 and higher in the winter.

From $132: Hilton Barbados Resort (Barbados)
This paradisal property is hugged by a sugar-white sand beach and has a spa, four dining and drinking venues, infinity pool, and scuba-diving center. Don't forget to make a trip to the nearby 17th century fort that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bay view rooms with a king or two double beds are priced from $132-$147 for the nights of September 1-3, 9-11, and 18-30; and October 4-8 and 11-17.
