What better way to kick off the summer travel season than with a getaway during Memorial Day weekend? That’s May 27-30, in case you’ve not been dreaming about it as much as we have. From escapes to the city to a lazy beach vacay, we’ve rounded up 12 hotels for under $300 per night to jumpstart your summer.
From $129: Hilton Anatole (Dallas, TX)
We’ve already gushed about this Dallas hotel’s impressive art and artifacts collection; now its low Memorial Day weekend rates are something else to celebrate. From May 27-29, standard king rooms are from $129 per night — a considerable deal since rates for the nights before and after the holiday weekend are from $169.
From $149: Le Méridien Chicago – Oakbrook Center (Chicago, IL)
Another culture-minded outpost, this Windy City hotel provides guests with complimentary access to the nearby Elmhurst Art Gallery through its Unlock Art program. Over the holiday weekend, classic rooms with two queen beds are from $149. Staying at the hotel during that particular time presents significant savings: other nights in May are priced from $199.
From $155: Hotel Madeline (Telluride, CO)
Fresh off a $15 million renovation, Hotel Madeline is now the site of a new terrace and pool deck that overlook the San Juan Mountains. Memorial Day weekend travelers can save 10 percent on two-night stays, 15 percent on three-night stays, and 20 percent on four nights or more with the Stay More, Save More promotion. Four-night stays are from $155 with the discount in a king room over the weekend. Regularly, rates are from $194.
From $159: Le Méridien Chambers (Minneapolis, MN)
Launch your summer with an outdoor Memorial Day brunch: On May 30, Marin Restaurant & Bar at Le Méridien Chambers is hosting a Monday version of their Cheat Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Choose from items like chicken breakfast tacos ($13), smoked trout omelet ($14), and bottomless mimosas for an additional $10. Rates at the hotel for that weekend are from $159 for a classic room — a nice drop from June rates of $229 and up.
From $159: West Inn and Suites (Carlsbad, CA)
This Southern California hotel offers a number of complimentary amenities, including shuttle service, buffet breakfast, 24-hour coffee and tea service, bedtime cookies and milk, parking, and beach items like chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards. Memorial Day weekend rates for a deluxe king room are from $159-$179, which is what you’ll find for other nights throughout the rest of the month; in June, some nights jump to as high as $219. We love the Date Your Mate package (from $189) that includes accommodations, ‘80s movie with popcorn and candy, bubble bath, board games, and items for pillow and Nerf gun fights.
From $179: Graduate Ann Arbor (Ann Arbor, MI)
Who said you have to be a student to visit this cool college town? This Graduate property has some serious personality with hand-painted mosaic patterns on the floor, murals, and a grand staircase. With the Summer School special, guests will receive a complimentary upgrade to the next room type and an assortment of local treats in your room. Holiday weekend rates are from $179 for a room with a king bed or a pair of queen beds.
From $194: Viceroy Zihuatanejo (Zihuatanejo, Mexico)
Snagging some sun south of the border may be just the ticket. This Viceroy location has two restaurants, three pools, an art gallery, WiFi throughout, and a bevy of water activities. For Memorial Day weekend reservations, book the Forever Summer deal and you’ll save up to 57 percent on standard rates and receive complimentary daily breakfast for two; rates are from $194-$203 for deluxe rooms. Without the offer, standard rates are from $450.
From $195: Viceroy Snowmass (Snowmass, CO)
Get ready for some dreamy mountain views when you stay at this Centennial State property — and it boasts loads of outdoor activities (think: hiking, biking, fly-fishing, and horseback riding), to boot. For three-night minimum stays, the hotel is offering the Summer Splendor promotion that includes a $100 resort credit; rates are from $195 per night in a studio with a king bed. Need further incentive to book the package? Standard rates for that weekend are also $195 — but you don’t get the resort credit.
From $238: Grand Oasis Palm (Cancun, Mexico)
Staying at an all-inclusive resort is one of the easiest ways to spend a vacation. Included with your stay at Grand Oasis Palm are all meals, snacks, drinks, entertainment, gratuities, and use of paddleboats, kayaks, and surfboards at the marina. We found Memorial Day weekend rates of $238 per night for two.
From $259: Hotel Commonwealth (Boston, MA)
Hotel Commonwealth — within walking distance to Fenway Park — recently wrapped up a multimillion-dollar renovation that introduced new rooms and suites, plus outdoor terraces and event space. For the nights of May 27-30, Kenmore king rooms are from $259-$299. To nudge you to go that weekend rather than later in the season, consider the fact that rates in June can climb up to as high as $399.
From $275: The Maritime Hotel (New York, NY)
If your Memorial Day weekend celebration leads you to the Big Apple, there’s always a stay at the nautical-themed Maritime Hotel. Foodies have been raving about La Sirena, the hotel’s ground floor restaurant that’s operated by Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich. We found superior queen rooms priced from $275 for the nights of May 27-30 — that’s about $50-$100 cheaper than other nights in May and June.
From $285: Gansevoort Park Avenue (New York, NY)
At the corner of 29th Street and Park Avenue, you’ll find this swanky staple. Its rooftop — with patio, wrap-around terraces, mosaic tiles, and artwork — is a favorite among locals. Superior rooms are priced from $285-$325 over Memorial Day weekend; that’s a bargain since a handful of other nights in May are priced from $445 for the same accommodations.
To round out the weekend, check out these events across the country.
- Florida: Calling all country music fans: Dierks Bentley is headlining May 30’s Somewhere On a Beach Bash at Spinnakers Beach Club in Panama City Beach. Tickets are $30 and include a copy of the crooner’s new “Black” album.
Also in the Sunshine State, the Kundalini Yoga Festival in Miami Beach will be held on May 28 and 29. From meditation and sacred chant concerts to Bhangra dancing and classes, attendees can learn more about this school of yoga. Tickets are from $28.
Bottoms up! The Westin Cape Coral Resort is putting a little spirit into the weekend with two events open to the public. On Saturday at 3:30 p.m., stop by the Marker 92 Lounge to learn about the history of rum; at the same time on Sunday, the venue will host Wine 101. Both classes are $15 each; reservations are required and can be made by calling 1-239-541-5600.

Dinner hours go until 11 p.m.
- California: The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles rooftop will open to the public for WP24 by Wolfgang Puck Patio Dining during the weekend. Normally reserved for hotel guests and residents, the rooftop will have various culinary stations and cocktails made of ingredients picked from its garden.
- Missouri: In St. Louis this weekend? Schlafly Beer — the city’s largest independent craft brewery — will host the Art Outside Festival at its Bottleworks location between May 27 and 29. The free event will have live music, artwork on display from more than 60 local artists, and beer and food samplings. Be sure to take a swig of the limited edition mango Hefeweizen brew, made in celebration of the festival.
