We know how hard it is to find an all-inclusive deal in Puerto Rico. So we were thrilled when the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar launched a new program last month that gives guests unlimited access to its bars, restaurants, and other amenities. Because, let’s face it — it’s nice to not have to deal with money when you’re ordering drinks at the pool bar.
What we love
This is not your average buffet-all-day all-inclusive (though you can eat all day, if you want to). The Wyndham’s more refined concept allows guests to customize their experience based on their needs. If you’re a total foodie or you’re looking for a super special night out, you can add an a la carte fine dining option for an additional $25 to $35.
What you get
At $220 per person, based on double occupancy (compared to standard rates from $127), the package includes meals at three of the five on-site restaurants — including a three-course meal at its elevated Puerto Rican restaurant Marbella — as well as unlimited house cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass. Non-alcoholic beverages, including bottled water, are also included — which you’ll need for your round of golf (also included) at one of the resort’s two 18-hole courses. Guests will get a set of towels and lounge chairs at beach and pool daily, too.
What to expect
Located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar is set on more than 500 acres of land, including its own mile-long stretch of beach. Other features include a casino, two golf courses, and five restaurants and lounges; but part of what makes Puerto Rico such a great destination (aside from not needing a passport to get there) is that there are great things to do off the resort, too. The Wyndham facilitates transportation to Old San Juan and to El Yunque rainforest, the only subtropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, which borders the property. There, guests can take advantage of endless walking and hiking trails, horseback riding, and more.
The resort is also partnering with Garmin to offer fitness trackers and waterproof action cameras to guests to use during their stay. So forget the old notion that all-inclusive means being stuck in one place.
