There's much to admire on Viking Cruises' first ocean-going ship, the Viking Star: beautiful decor, all-veranda staterooms, complimentary WiFi, impeccable service, the cuisine, and a friendly staff. But since we returned from our Lisbon-to-London media preview voyage in May, we often find ourselves daydreaming specifically of the beautifully designed sitting areas throughout the ship.

Featuring custom furniture, the seating areas are well-appointed for cozying up with a good book or just watching life pass by -- and there's plenty of seating for the ship's 930 passengers so that it never feels crowded. And thanks to Scandinavian-style furniture characterized by clean lines and soft color palettes, you certainly won't find any garish neon accents on this ship. Here, a photo tour of our favorite places to lounge on the Viking Star.

Upon boarding on deck 1, you'll get your first taste of the ship's furnishings. The Viking Living Room is one large area in the midship section, but it's full of smaller sets of sitting areas that are perfect for socializing, playing board games, or people watching.

On the same deck, the Viking Library is perhaps the most quiet spot on the ship. Feel free to borrow one of the many inspirational and entertaining books both here and throughout the vessel.

No benches in this women's locker room. Before or after a spa treatment, take a breather on one of these super plush couches.

Ready for some time out in the sun? Stake out a spot on one of these lounge chairs right next to the infinity pool, on deck 7.

This setup near the main pool is ideal for sipping a refreshing cocktail from the pool bar -- or simply getting some fresh air while the retractable roof is open.

When it's time for afternoon tea the Wintergarden on deck 7, make yourself at home in one of these armchairs.

The exterior section of the Wintergarden is perfect for watching sunrises and sunsets. The cast bronze gates -- representing destinations from around the world -- are among our favorite pieces of art from the entire ship. The orange chairs and throw pillows provide a welcoming pop of color.

"I wonder if they sell those in the gift shop," was our first reaction when we first spotted these matching armchairs. You can find them on the lower level of the Explorers' Lounge on deck 7.

From the lower level of the Explorers' Lounge, walk up a beautiful glass staircase to the upper level (on deck 8). Here, settle in for intimate musical performances, go stargazing, or wind down with a nightcap.

Catch the ocean breeze when sitting in this outdoor living room on deck 8.

Whether you're just a spectator or taking a break from the several sports options found on deck 9, you'll get to enjoy unparalleled views from the highest public space on the ship.
