Here’s a quick look at what’s new this week in cruising, and how it could impact your next trip…
- Always wanted to do a a Panama Canal crossing? Here’s a secret: After going through the first lock or two, it becomes a tad repetitive. So we’re thrilled that Windstar Cruises is livening things up with an outdoor deck festival on its Costa Rica & Panama Canal cruises this winter. Passengers will partake in Panamanian beer, drinks, food, and music during a nighttime passage — as lights illuminate the inner workings of the 40-mile manmade canal.
- Attention rock fans: Def Leppard is doing its first-ever cruise, headlining the four-day Hysteria on the High Seas music festival on the MSC Divina. The band will be performing and posing for photos, doing a Q&A session, and unveiling its new brand of craft beer. The fun starts out of Miami on January 21.
- Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced that the company is committing to using 100 percent cage-free eggs by 2022. That may not sound like a big deal — until you consider that between its three brands (Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara), the parent company will use 40 million eggs this year. The company is similarly committing to pork purchases only from gestation crate-free suppliers by 2022.
