Created seven years ago by the Trigano Family, co-founders of Club Med, MAMA Shelter began as a chic-but-affordable boutique Paris hotel before expanding to Marseilles, Lyon, Istanbul, and Bordeaux. This spring, MAMA is coming for Los Angeles, making it the chain's first foray into the United States.

Located in Hollywood's Selma and Wilcox neighborhood, just a few blocks from such sites as the Chinese Theatre, the six-floor MAMA Shelter will feature chic design by Thierry Gaugain and comfortable rooms with beds covered in "satin smooth" sheets, 27-inch iMacs (featuring television, Criterion Collection movies, video/photo booth) free WiFi, and fun touches like the Bert and Ernie lampshades pictured above. Hotel facilities will include a gym and restaurant on the rooftop, which will offer a near-360-degree view from the Hollywood sign, to Downtown, to South Bay, to the Westside. Chef Benjamin Bailly from Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Petrossian, and Fraiche designed the menus for the rooftop as well as lobby dining, including a 24-hour menu.

Best of all, rates are reasonable, starting at $149, up to $159 (excluding taxes and fees) for the opening month of June. Even better, those rates should remain more or less the same. Benjamin Trigano, grandson of the Club Med founders, explained his vision to LA Confidential: “If Chateau Marmont had a baby, this would be it, but more affordable and a bit more open. I don’t want this to be just for studio execs and hipsters. That’s why price is so important. Youth and artists can bring a lot of life to a place, but if you want them to come, you have to price it accordingly.” To that end, rooms will average $150 a night while food and drink will be similarly accessible."
