- Forget the cheesy logo T-shirts. For a completely different cruise souvenir, passengers on the Costa Diadema can order up a 3D-printed statue of themselves with a cruise-exclusive discount to boot. These ultimate selfies use technology from Spain’s Labs3D: do a body scan on the ship, send it to Barcelona, and have the reproduction shipped to your home. Statues come in five sizes — ranging from 5″ to 8″ — and start from €89, or about $94, plus shipping. The starting price is usually €99.
- Now that Christmas season is officially upon us, Carnival Cruise Line is hosting a series of “Grinchmas” celebrations on its Fun Ships. The curmudgeonly green character from Dr. Seuss will be making pop-up appearances, trying his best to disrupt shipboard holiday festivities, in addition to posing for photos in his “Santy Claus” costume. (The real Santa will be onboard, too.)
- The first Margaritaville at Sea has turned out to be a huge hit on the brand-new Norwegian Escape, and not just with Parrotheads. The bad news? The lines have been so long Norwegian Cruise Line has decided to start charging for the food, in a stab at crowd control. So while you’ll now have to pay $6.99 for a Cheeseburger in Paradise, that’s still cheaper than what you’d pay at the corresponding resorts onshore.
- Calling all aspiring chefs: The Culinary Center on Oceania Cruises‘ Riviera has added several new hands-on cooking classes for the Caribbean season. For just one example, Cuban Family Table offers passengers the chance to learn to make stews, pastries, and a mean mojito, for a fee of $69.
