Inspired Travel: Gorgeous Resorts That Show Off Bali's Natural Beauty

by  Katie McElveen | Jun 19, 2015

Bali, the dreamiest of isles, offers instant nirvana thanks to a near-perfect blend of natural beauty, soul-soothing mysticism, and untamed elegance. And it's no surprise that refined resorts take advantage of the gorgeous landscape with extravagant outdoor spaces, near-prescient service, and pampering spas. Here, a photo tour of some of our favorites.

Villas at AYANA Resort in Jimbaran come with butler service, bathrooms the size of most apartments, and these private gardens -- which are set with oversized plunge pools, shaded Bali beds for two, and a profusion of tropical blooms. Just ask and you can have breakfast delivered to your pool. On a floating tray, naturally.

The three-bedroom clifftop AYANA Villa is a favorite of romantic-minded couples, who get engaged at sunset or marry with the ocean as their backdrop in this private palapa.

When your own private pool isn’t enough, book one of these swim-up rooms at RIMBA Resort, which is tucked into the jungle at the edge of the ocean in Jimbaran.

Even if you choose not to walk down (and back up) the 197 steps that lead to Kubu beach at AYANA Resort, you can take in this jaw-dropping view of the coastline’s towering cliffs, rock formations, and bluer-than-blue water.

Slide into one of RIMBA’s sunken dens and you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking sunset colors. No need to rush -- Bali’s equatorial location means it takes nearly 90 minutes for the sun to make its journey into the sea each night.

With this view, you hardly need a treatment to relax at Viceroy Bali’s open-air Lembah Spa. The resort is located in Ubud, the cultural and artistic center of Bali, and is surrounded by terraced rice fields and tiny villages.

There are infinity pools and then there are infinity pools, like this one also at Viceroy Bali. From the thatched-roof bure or the edge of the pool, gaze down into the Valley of the Kings and listen to the rushing water of the Petanu River.

The sign at AYANA says simply “ocean pool,” but this stunning setting is what you’ll find at the end of the path. Pro tip: It’s even more spectacular at sunset.

Pools at RIMBA sparkle like sapphires against their lush garden settings. Most have private cabanas and dramatic fountains, too.
