Good News, Disney Cruise Fans: Updates Coming to the Disney Dream

by  Fran Golden | Sep 15, 2015

Weather. The global political situation. New industry developments. It all impacts the world of cruising. Here’s a quick look at what’s new this week in cruising, and how it could impact your next trip…

  • Onboard Disney Cruise Line's Disney Dream, we picked up a few more details about what will happen when the popular ship goes into dry dock for renovation for three weeks in October. There's already been word that the Dream will get a first-of-its-kind "Star Wars: Millennium Falcon" play area in the Oceaneer Club, among other upgrades for kids, like the interactive Disney Infinity video game-influenced play area. But rest assured: Adults won't be left entirely out of the equation. The Pink champagne bar will soon boast a new champagne bubble entrance, and the 687 sports bar is being reconfigured to serve 14 beers on tap, including craft varieties. One boo-hiss: A new gelato/sweets shop is replacing the ship's classic arcade. The first sailing showing off the new stuff embarks October 26. From around $780 per person for a four-night sailing in the Bahamas, varying by itinerary and based on double occupancy.
  • Pick up culinary tips from none other than Julia Child's one-time TV partner, the legendary Jacques Pepin. The affable master chef will be onboard Oceania Cruises' Marina for a 10-day Venice to Rome sailing, embarking November 1, 2016. (Pepin is also executive culinary director for the line, so you know you'll eat well). From $3,899 per person.
  • Calling all shopaholics: Carolina Herrera and Lacoste boutiques are coming to Norwegian Cruise Line's 4,200-passenger Norwegian Escape, which debuts in November on Caribbean cruises from Miami. Duty-free bags and polo shirts, anyone?
