From $89: Pre-Holiday Hotel Stays Around the U.S.

by  Christine Dayao | Nov 20, 2015

There's no doubt that the holiday season is a magical time, but who really has the budget to spring for a getaway right before the end-of-year gift-giving bonanza? We've uncovered nine hotels and resorts around the country that are offering significant savings for stays leading up to Christmas -- all less than $200 per night. Say "hello" to a pre-holiday vacation -- or even staycation -- that you didn't know you could afford...

From $89: Palmer House, A Hilton Hotel (Chicago, IL)
As one of the most historic hotels in the country, the property has hosted its fair share of elite figures, from U.S. presidents to Oscar Wilde. It’s also home to one of the most beautiful chandeliers we’ve ever seen. Between December 13 and 25, the hotel is offering its historic rooms starting from $89 per night -- with the exception of December 16-18.  While those prices are still available for stays throughout January, visiting in December means you can check out the city’s Christmas festivities and activities -- and do some major shopping on the Magnificent Mile.

From $89: Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa (Lake Buena Vista, FL)
For those who’d like to stay close to the fun at Walt Disney World, but not pay the steep prices of the theme park resorts, this may be just the ticket. On the nights of December 1-3, 6-9, and 16-23, the property is offering resort-view rooms with a king bed for special holiday rates, from $89-$119. Since the hotel is part of Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels, you can stroll to the nearby Disney Springs entertainment, dining, and shopping area, or hitch a shuttle ride to the four Disney theme parks. Just a month later, nightly rates jump up to $159 and higher.

From $101: DoubleTree by Hilton (Lake Buena Vista, FL)
Also a Disney Springs Resort Area Hotel, this DoubleTree outpost provides guests with plenty of space to spread out in a suite at a great price. With the holiday rates, we found one-bedroom suites with a pair of queen beds starting from $101-$118 on December 1-2, 8-10, and 13-17. Have some free time? We suggest taking a leisurely walk around Disney Springs to check out the holiday decorations. If you were to hold off on a trip until January next year, expect rates from $149.

From $139: Hotel on North (Pittsfield, MA)
This boutique property in the Berkshires opened earlier this year in a pair of 19th century buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On site, guests can check out the rotating exhibit of sculpture, photography, and other artwork -- or grab a bite at the Eat on North restaurant, which serves locally sourced items. Throughout December, you can nab rooms with a king bed starting from $139 for weekday stays; in January, prices bump up to $179 per night. Beyond the hotel, get a dose of culture at the Berkshire Museum ($13) or The Clark Art Institute ($20).

From $149: Diplomat Resort and Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton (Hollywood, FL)
Trade in the cold weather for the warmth and sunshine of the Florida coastline, on a barrier island between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. A short walk from the oceanfront boardwalk, this resort has 998 guest rooms and two outdoor pools. Each night between December 10 and 25 (excluding the 12th and 19th), Intracoastal Waterway, and partial ocean view superior rooms with a king bed start from $149. It's a significant savings from January rates, which are $299 and up.

From $150: Hotel Van Zandt, A Kimpton Hotel (Austin, TX)
How about a pre-holiday celebration with some Texas flair? The décor at this brand new Austin hotel sports an earthy vibe, but pops of teal provide a dash of cool sophistication. For the nights of December 10-30, book the Van Zandt Sneak Peek rate for 25 percent off regular rates -- translating to $150 per night in deluxe king rooms. Nightly rates just a couple of weeks later in January are going for $225 and higher.

From $159: Hotel Providence (Providence, RI)
There's no doubt that we love Providence because of its art scene. Hotel Providence is located in the city's Historic District and is a short walk to the Rhode Island School of Design Museum ($12) and other top attractions. From December 13-30, rooms with one king or queen bed, or two queens, are priced from $159. You'll find those same prices being offered January 1-7, but for the rest of the first month of 2016, nightly rates are from $189.

From $180: Windsor Court Hotel (New Orleans, LA)
Through January 7, 2016, the hotel's Papa Noel rate offers 10-20 percent off the best available rate for all room types. Using the discount, we found guestrooms with one or two queen beds from $180 for the nights of December 13-17 and 22-24. That’s a considerable savings compared to nights in January, during which rates are from $232. While you’re there, be sure to peruse the property’s collection of art, ranging from painting and sculptures to tapestries and furnishings -- some of which date back to the 17th century. As part of the Christmas season, the hotel's lobby is decorated with a 20-foot-tall Christmas tree that has 25,000 lights and more than 3,000 ornaments.

From $186: The Angler’s, A Kimpton Hotel (Miami Beach, FL)
At this South Beach property, stake out a spot at the pool surrounded by palm trees or retreat to one of the 45 guestrooms, which have bamboo wood floors and white marble-tiled bathrooms. When booking the advanced purchase rate up to two weeks ahead of your stay, you can save 15 percent on the best available rate and receive continental breakfast for two. Under that offer, we found studio king rooms starting from $186 for December 6-10, 13-17, and 20-23. For comparison, room start from $246 in January.
