Want to travel to beautiful Florence this spring? If your schedule is flexible, try going in March -- a month that turns out to be an exceptionally good time to reap savings in Tuscany’s capital. Here, three hotels under $150 a night, including a brand-new property that just soft-opened in December.

Hotel Garibaldi Blu, the newest outpost from the Whythebest Hotels group, features guestrooms and junior suites bathed in calming hues of blue or gray. While design enthusiasts will relish the vaulted ceilings, wall frescoes, and hardwood floors, anyone can appreciate the terrazzo floors, marble walls, and free WiFi in all rooms. Rates start from just €115 (about $131) per night on March weekdays, while weekend stays are just a bit more at €135 ($154). For comparison, April rooms go for €155-€225. All guests enjoy continental breakfast, too.

Right around the corner from the Duomo is the Hotel Hermitage, where all guests are also treated to continental breakfast and free WiFi. From singles to quadruples, all accommodations have private showers, while superior doubles and higher room categories also boast whirlpool baths. We found plenty of superior double rates from €110, or about $125, on March weekdays, while other dates during the month range from €147 to €170. In April, the rates hike up to €171 and more. (Easter weekend requires a three-night stay, from €588 total.)

The quaint Hotel Machiavelli Palace has 90 rooms, available in classic or superior double, and a spacious junior suite. Here, complimentary breakfast and WiFi are standard, but you can score more perks if you stay longer: biscuits for two-night stays, an additional walking tour with three nights, and a bottle of wine on top of all that with four nights. We found the best rates on March 4-5, from €99 ($112), and March 8-11, from €104 ($118), but you'll find Saturday rates under $150, too. Note: Saturday check-ins require a two-night stay. The month after, rates will start to increase, with the best price on April 12 from €136.
