Here’s a quick look at what’s new this week in cruising, and how it could impact your next trip…

  • More details on next year’s one-week Cuba sailings with Fathom, Carnival Corporation’s volunteer-oriented cruise line, are in. Beginning in May, the 700-passenger MV Adonia will call at Havana, Cienfuegos, and Santiago de Cuba. With the goal of “social impact” while cruising, travelers will partake in activities like visiting an organic farm, helping with an English class at a local school, or joining a brainstorming session with small business owners. There will be also be opportunities to visit some of the country’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and to learn about Cuban food and culture. (MV Adonia will also visit the Dominican Republic every other week beginning April 10.)
Cuba sailings from $1,800 per person; Dominican Republic sailings from $974.
  • Special LGBT sailings aren’t new, but there’s now a cruise line that’ll be the first to be entirely dedicated to year-round journeys for LGBT travelers and their families. Anteros Cruises, based in Miami, will launch in April 2017 on a yacht-style, 400-passenger ship.
  • Having trouble figuring out what to pack for your cruise? Princess Cruises is launching a new resource for you: online videos featuring fashion expert Stacy London, the host of TLC’s “What Not to Wear” television show. Look for the tips, a part of the cruise line’s Style at Sea program, in early 2016.
  • Talk about niche theme sailings. A Monsters of Rock Cruise: Shredders from the Deep cruise promises four days of heavy metal mayhem with 40 bands, including headline performers Tesla, and a guitar fantasy camp. Head-banging commences onboard the Norwegian Pearl, embarking Miami for the Bahamas on February 22.
    From $999 per person.
