Want to stay a stone’s throw away from the action of the Walt Disney World Resort without paying those infamously high hotel prices? Your best bet is book a stay at the nearby Downtown Disney Resort Area Hotels: a collection of seven properties within walking distance of the free-to-enter Downtown Disney shopping and dining district.

Included with a stay at any of the properties is complimentary shuttle service to each of the Disney theme parks and water parks, on-site Disney tickets for purchase, the ability to book dining reservations at Disney restaurants, and a booklet filled with discounts on dining, entertainment, and shopping.

Plus, through the end of March, the hotels are offering reduced rates with its Escape the Cold promotion to make stays here even more tempting. With it, rates start at $73 a night, depending on the property. Here’s a look at what’s being offered during the promotion:

Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel (from $89): For March, we found the lowest rate of $89 per night for rooms with two queen beds every day throughout the month -- except for stays on Fridays and Saturdays, when the price goes up to $109.

Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista (from $89): Prices fluctuate at this property, topping out as high as $188 per night. But early in the month, March 1-4, a room for two queen beds goes for $98 for two queen beds. Want to hop on the lowest rate? Book a king room on March 8, 22, and 23 at $89.

Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa (from $93): If you have your heart set on this hotel, your window of opportunity to find the lowest rate of $101.15. is quite limited. We were only able to find availability for the check-in dates of March 8-10. The next best rate of $118.15 can be booked for stays on March 3-5, 16-18, and 28-31.

Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort (from $74): Surprisingly, we found a room with two double beds (and an exterior entrance) for $73.32 per night on March 1-3 -- even though the advertised starting rate for this property is actually $97. The two days after, prices go up slightly to $81.12 when staying March 4-5, and to $92.82 for March 8-11.

Holiday Inn Orlando – Lake Buena Vista (from $99): The lowest room rate of $99 is bookable March 1-4 and 8-10, for rooms with either a king bed and sofa bed or double queen beds. Rates jump to $129 and higher thereafter.

B Resort & Spa Lake Buena Vista (from $135): Here’s another case where we were pleasantly surprised than a lower-than-advertised rate. Guests checking in March 1-5 can nab deluxe king, deluxe queen, or queen rooms for just $134.25 per night. We found that chic queen rooms are priced only $9 more at $143.10 on March 8-12, before making a leap to about $150 from then on.

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando – Lake Buena Vista (from $122): On March 1-3, 8, and 11-12, a one-bedroom suite with two queen beds can be yours for $122 per night. Should those days not fit into your schedule, you can pay just $19 more on check-in dates of March 9 and 10.
