Local Choice: El Fredo’s
If you want to eat like a local, head to El Fredo’s in Basseterre for a tasty lunch that won’t break the bank. This unassuming eatery in the downtown district near the ferry terminal serves up delicious island fare, such as Red Snapper Creole (shown above), Conch Roti (an Indian-style wrap), or Stewed Oxtail. Tip: Try one of their fresh fruit juices with flavors such as soursop and passionfruit.
Romantic Choice: Marshall’s
Offering poolside and oceanview dining (with views of neighboring Nevis on a clear day), Marshall’s is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a romantic dinner spot. The simple yet flavorful entrees range from Turf & Turf, to Grilled Swordfish, to Vegetarian Lasagna. All are equally filling – but be sure to leave room for their mouth-watering desserts! Located in the Frigate Bay neighborhood, Marshall's is open for dinner only and reservations are recommended.
Laid-back Choice: Reggae Beach Bar
Some of the best BBQ dishes, and a laid-back dining experience, can be found at Reggae Beach Bar at the southern tip of St. Kitts. Picturesque Cockleshell Bay provides the backdrop for this breezy dining establishment, where guests can choose between picnic tables on the sand and dining under the open-air roof. Come on Friday for the famous Lobster Fest, or any time for the Honey Mustard Ribs or fresh Catch of the Day. The restaurant also offers watersports activities, beach chair rentals, and water taxi service to Nevis.
Post-Dinner Choices:
“The Strip” is what Kittitians affectionately call the row of beach bars in Frigate Bay, the island's go-to nightlife spot. There are a dozen or so bars, ranging from rustic to upscale, offering food, drinks, and live music. Tip: On Thursday nights, Shiggidy Shag is the place to be for some open-air dancing to the latest reggae songs courtesy of a live band and DJ. Off “The Strip,” head to the Marriott Resort’s Keys Rum Bar for Mojito Night on Wednesdays.
