The Midwest’s newest luxury hotel is now open: The Edgewater, in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, along Lake Mendota and a few blocks to hip State Street (lined with shops selling eclectic holiday gifts), and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Fresh off a $100 million renovation, practically everything at the hotel is brand-new, including a destination spa, four restaurants, and an ice rink.
Each of the 202 rooms in this carefully preserved Art Deco hotel features free WiFi, bath fixtures by Kohler (a Wisconsin company), a 47-inch HDTV, and rain showerheads in the spa-style baths.
At The Statehouse, sink into plush teal chairs and watch the sunset while dining on Midwest charcuterie — or tuck into Maine lobster while sipping a blood orange side car, the hotel’s signature cocktail. More casual fare at the Ice House includes pizza and Wisconsin craft beers while the Boathouse (opening in the spring or summer) celebrates the hotel’s waterfront setting. A café opens soon as well. Treatments at the spa range from facials to massages.
If that’s not enough, we’re also loving the hotel’s newest perk: its own 4,000-square-foot ice rink, just opened in November, that was designed by the same company behind The Pond rink at NYC’s Bryant Park.
The extra amenities unsurprisingly mean extra dollars, but if you want to be one of its first guests, you can score a nice deal here. The Experience the Edgewater package offers $250 per night rates, $100 credit at The Edgewater Spa, and $50 credit for food and beverage offerings within the hotel. The deal is available through December 15, and bookings need to be made seven days before the stay.
For comparison, rates remain as low as $250 through summer — but don’t include the two credits. Considering these perks and the gorgeous setting, we still say the planning and premium are worth it.
