One of our favorite off-the-beaten-path Caribbean islands just got a lot more accessible, thanks to the recent opening of Sandals LaSource Grenada. The brand's first outpost on Grenada, the resort brings 225 guestrooms to the island; not to mention increased, and more competitive, flight options which are highly likely to follow.

The back story

As well as marking a new chapter for tourism in Grenada, the property presents a new direction for the Sandals brand as well. Visitors will find a sophisticated design aesthetic that belies preconceived notions of the all-inclusive brand. Such as? Mahogany furnishing, tiled floors, double sinks, and huge granite freestanding bathtubs.

Meanwhile, the lush garden-surrounded exteriors retain the classic island vibe. Luxurious room categories include Skypool suites with infinity edge plunge pools on private balconies, but there are options for all price points.

Room Categories

Spread throughout three distinct 'villages' (the Pink Gin, South Seas, and Italian Villages) and over 17 acres, Sandals LaSource has 20 different room categories, including 69 butler suites presided over by Guild of Professional English Butlers-trained personal butlers. At the lowest end of the scale, a Pink Gin Grand Luxe room with an ocean view starts at $519 per couple per night.

A few steps up in category is the South Seas Hideaway Junior Suite, which starts at $546 (and comes with its own soaking tub). A South Seas Millionaire One Bedroom Butler Suite starts at $1,688, and the top class Italian Oceanview Penthouse goes for around $2,000 a night. Rates vary depending on length of stay.

What's Included

Rates include all meals at any of the resort's nine restaurants – including the brand's first steakhouse, Butch's Chophouse – as well as premium liquor at five bars, roundtrip airport transfers, WiFi, and entertainment. The brand also has a no tipping policy for everyone except butlers and spa therapists, so there's no need to worry about putting aside a little extra cash. (Also included are all motorized and non-motorized watersports.)

The resort has an on-site dive school where you can become resort certified (meaning you can dive with any Sandals resort) for an extra $190 – as Grenada is home to the world's first underwater sculpture park, in Moilinere Bay, it's well worth spending the extra money to get certified just to get up close to this unique attraction (although snorkeling is possible here, too).

What's Not Included

Facilities at the Red Lane Spa (the sauna and steam room) are included, but if you want to indulge in a treatment, it will cost extra (from $50 for a foot massage, to $360 for a 90-minute couple's massage). Tours and excursions can be booked through the on-site Island Routes company and include a five-hour island tour ($49), a self-piloted powerboat and snorkel tour ($99), and a six-hour seafood and champagne cruise ($159).

Deals to book right now

Current specials running at this resort include a $190 booking bonus when you book six nights or more (book by May 14 and travel any time), and a $135 air credit per room for a minimum three-night stay, or $355 for a minimum six-night stay (offered for most, but not all, bookings).

Finally, if you enjoy your stay, don't wait until you get home to book your next vacation. Through Sandals' "Soon Come Back" program you can book a future stay at a discounted price, as long as you book while on the property. The offers extends to all of the brand's resorts, so you might want to reserve a room at Sandals Barbados, which will be opening in January 2015.
