Some news for travelers heading from Newark to Hong Kong: Cathay Pacific has launched new daily nonstop service from Liberty International Airport this month. This is in addition to their four-times-daily service from New York's JFK.

The best news about these flights? They're a good deal. They offer premium service over less-fancy North America-based carriers, and they offer better value. For example, you can fly round-trip on United from Newark to Hong Kong midweek in April for about $1600, nonstop. Compare that to just $1200 on more upscale Cathay Pacific. There are certainly cheaper ways to get to Hong Kong if you're looking for a rock-bottom-priced ticket. Take flights on Air Canada, which go for about $1000 midweek in April from New York's Laguardia Airport. But those flights require a layover in Canada. In fact, for just over $2000 round-trip, you can fly nonstop in Cathay Pacific's Premium Economy class, which offers passengers more space, comfort, and personal attention.

With priority check-in and extra baggage allowance, the Premium Economy is worth it, if you're looking for comfort. A separate, more spacious cabin boasts larger seats, more legroom, and a three-position footrest to alleviate those pesky, puffy, long-haul flight feet. And additional perks include a business-style amenity kit, noise-cancelling headphones, a welcome glass of champagne, and enhanced menu options (think grilled Australian prime beef tenderloin with parsnip mash and French beans).

For Business Class travelers, the Cathay bed is one of the longest and widest provided on any commercial airline, and it's bolstered with cozy duvets and fluffy pillows. First Class seating comes complete ultra-soft PJs, Michelin-curated menus and a new Krug champagne and caviar service to launch in May.
