Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach

Between the killer waves, unbeatable seafood, and lush landscapes, the amazing islands of Hawaii manage to captivate pretty much every traveler who visits. If you're considering a repeat visit of your own, now's the time to start planning – each May, a tiny tourism lull between the end of winter and the start of busy summer means a significant drop in hotel rates. Our advice? Snap up one of these eight great deals, catering to a range of budgets, while you still can:

Ala Moana Hotel: $10/Night
A $10 hotel room is a good deal anywhere, not just Hawaii. Next week, 20 ocean view rooms at Honolulu's Ala Moana Hotel are going on sale at that very rate for each night between April 1 and May 10. No butlers or gilded decor here, but the hotel rates highly in the all-important three Cs: centrally located, clean, and cost-effective. At more than 90 percent off – typical weekend rates are $139 – what more could you possibly ask for? The promotion goes live at this link on March 18 at 10 a.m. on the dot, and we recommend booking within the first 24 hours before availability runs out. Minimum is three nights and maximum is five. 3/27 Update: This same deal is back on for Monday, March 31. Deal will go live here.

JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa: 30% Off + $50 Daily Credit
For a secluded getaway with easy beach access and attentive service, JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina becomes an affordable luxury with up to 30 percent off travel through May 12. We found rates drop from $419 to $299 for weekdays in April and May. Book directly through the site using promo code M41 and get a $50 daily credit for food, beverage, and entertainment throughout the resort. A $25 daily resort fee isn’t included, but the hotel has been known to waive it. It doesn’t hurt to ask - so long as you do it nicely and know that it’s not guaranteed.

Aston Hotels & Resorts: $100+/Night
Are you a super-saver who prioritizes location? Here’s a nice and straightforward deal with mostly sub-$150 rates across Hawaii. Aston Hotels & Resorts, encompassing more than 20 properties in the state, is offering an advance purchase rate of 15 percent off for travel through June 12. Some sample rates:

  • Oahu: From $127 at Aston Waikiki Beachside Hotel (no fee)
  • Maui: From $96 + $15.62 resort fee at Aston Maui Lu
  • Kuai: From $81 + 18.75 resort fee at Aston Aloha Beach Hotel
  • Hawaii Island: From $169 + $13 resort fee at Aston Kona by the Sea

While these properties tend to be older than other resorts in the area (with the exception of the slightly pricier Kona by the Sea), the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Plus, we fully expect you to be soaking up the sun outside anyway.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach: Fourth Night Free
Waikiki is an amalgamation of bustling shops and serene beaches. At the Hyatt Regency, enjoy the best of both worlds for less through the Sunshine on Sale promotion, which gets you your fourth night free. For May, we found rates as low as $252, which averages out to $189 per night if you book four nights. That’s approximately 15 percent off the best advance rates. If you’re booking online, note that the discount will be applied at checkout at the hotel.

Destination Resorts Condos & Villas: Rentals From $145
For not much more than a hotel room, enjoy the comforts of condo living with Destination Resorts Hawaii, whose properties already offer complimentary parking, wifi, grocery discounts, and restaurant area credits. Two nice deals are currently in play: an advance rate of up to 40 percent off and a spring savings promotion with higher base rates but a few extra pluses. At the advance rate, one bedrooms and two bedrooms on May weekends will cost $145+ and $175+ at Wailea Grand Champion Villas, and two bedrooms go for $197 at Wailea Ekolu Village. But if you plan on driving around, the spring promotion includes a complimentary car rental for two-bedroom rentals, from $200 and $230 at these two property. Considering car rentals go for around $165, the perk more than makes up for the differences.

Four Seasons: Free Nights, Freebies & More
Always wanted to indulge in a Four Seasons experience? You’re in for a rare treat. Our editorial director has already pointed out the value of a very uncommon fourth night free promotion at Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay. (Rates have gone up a bit since that story was published – this week, we found rates from $424 for May.) We’re happy to report that the same deal can now be had the more rustic-chic Lodge at Koele, from $292 in May.

Then there’s Four Seasons Maui at Wailea in the fall. Yes, rates at $489 are still significant, but service and amenities are as superlatively elegant as ever – and that’s compared to rates from $849 during the summer. Additional temptations take the form of special programming like free beer tastings (Thursday through Saturdays in September), cocktail receptions (Wednesday through fall), scuba lessons daily, onsite fashion shows, and more.

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua: $1000 Credit & More
If you’re looking for an ultimate splurge – and are interested in taking full advantage of resort amenities – The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua has a very generous credit offer via its Adventure Luxury package. To fulfill the five-night minimum at $669 per night, you will have to shell out a whopping $3,145 for a one-bed, two-bath garden view suite. But even when you account for the slightly lower non-promotional rate ($629 per night), the $1,000 credit you get essentially gives you over 25 percent more of that regular rate. The credit is good not only for your typical spa and restaurant delights, but also for area excursions in the resort's signature environment program. That’s not to mention a daily breakfast buffet for two, worth $350 total.
