Right now, Air New Zealand operates only two flights out of Singapore's Changi Airport – to Abu Dhabi and Brisbane – via its partner Etihad Airways. However, by the end of this year, flight capacity between the countries of New Zealand and Singapore will have increased by up to 30 percent, thanks to a new alliance announced between Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand. Under the partnership, tourist-hungry New Zealand will have access to a whole new network of visitors in South and Southeast Asia. But New Zealand's tourism office isn't alone in celebrating this deal. Here's how you can take advantage, too...

Take the time for a stopover:
Suppose you're flying from the U.S. to Singapore (and why wouldn't you, with all these fabulous reasons to go in 2014) on Singapore Airlines, and have some time to spare, or want to broaden your trip. With the new alliance, you'll have more options than ever to get to Auckland, a ten-hour flight away, and do a little sightseeing while you're there.

Enjoy the codeshare perks:
A wider network could mean greater incentive to fly with Air New Zealand. As part of the new agreement, the airline's passengers can access codeshare travel on Singapore Airlines' vast network throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. So if you've been a loyal Air New Zealand customer for years, and suddenly feel like spicing up your South Pacific getaway with a side trip to, say, Mumbai, or Bali, now you can. This was possible before, as both airlines are Star Alliance members, but new codeshare capabilities make multi-city itineraries even easier to book.

Head to the South Pacific:
Even if you're not even planning on traveling to New Zealand at all, this alliance could inspire a whole new trip. With access to Air New Zealand's impressive South Pacific network, Singapore Airlines customers can now make use of Air New Zealand's frequent airfare deals to the Cook Islands. One current offer is enabling travel to beautiful Rarotonga (another of our recommended destinations for 2014) for as low as $313 roundtrip from Auckland.
