Underwater Art GalleriesSure, some art galleries are musts if you’re in the area – the Musée du Louvre in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, to name a few. But when it comes to Barbados, no galleries particularly come to mind, until now.

Renowned Austrian photographer Andreas Franke took the sunken SS Stavronikita, a Greek ship resting off the coast of Barbados, and turned it into his very own art gallery. Many of his underwater photos are actually on display over 100 feet down. The “Stavronikita Project” opened just a few months ago in December 2012, and has gained in popularity for tourists on dives.

But this isn’t, by any means, the first underwater art gallery. Of course there’s the world’s first underwater sculpture garden off Grenada’s coastline, and the MUSA Collection off of Isla Mujeres in Cancun, Mexico. Check out some of the images from all of them below.
