Celebrating Overseas: 5 Beautiful Hotel Thanksgiving Dinners Around the World
We’ve already dished up the best hotel restaurants to have a Thanksgiving feast at on the home front, but what if you’re traveling over the holidays? Luckily for homesick Americans, international hotels understand the significance of the day, meaning that even in such far flung places as Europe and the Caribbean, you can celebrate with a semi-traditional feast and all the trimmings.
London’s iconic Mayfair hotel, The Dorchester will be offering American guests traditional favorites with an English twist at its restaurant The Grill. Thanksgiving dinner will include such dishes as New England clam chowder; roast turkey, quince and orange stuffing, baked squash, sweet potatoes, chipolata sausages wrapped in bacon with cranberry sauce, and, for dessert, pumpkin and pecan pie, and eggnog ice cream with roasted marshmallow sauce. With the hotel’s prime location overlooking Hyde Park, you can easily burn off (some of) the calories with a brisk stroll. While in the park, you can check out Hyde Park Winter Wonderland with its shops, ice skating, and carnival rides (opens Nov. 22). Thanksgiving lunch and dinner rates start from £60 per adult excluding wines (approximately $90) and £90 with wines (approximately $138 USD) and €30 per child aged 5-11 ($48 USD).
It may be presumed sacrilege to eat American food in Italy, but not if it’s prepared by Michelin Star winning Chef Fabio Ciervo of La Terrazza dell’Eden at Hotel Eden. On Thanksgiving Day guests can enjoy roasted turkey breast aromatized with mixed herbs and filled with wild mushrooms, and caramelized pumpkin terrinewith a special Bas Armagnac-flavored sauce – all while looking out across the sights of the Eternal City; from St. Peter’s Dome to the Vittoriano Momument. Thanksgiving dinner costs €48 euros ($65 U.S).
At Hôtel Édouard you can sate your goût Américain on the Avenue de l’Opéra in an historic hotel that oozes Parisian charm. The annual “Soiree Thanksgiving,” will feature such dishes as dinde farcie (stuffed turkey) in a New England style with sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce, and pumpkin tart. The price per person is €40 ($54).
If you are lucky enough to be spending late November on the sunny Cayman Islands, you can visit The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa for a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner with Caribbean flair. Dishes at Ferdinand’s Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet will include Cayman pumpkin soup, pan seared red snapper, Virginia ham with spiced clove glaze and pineapple, and maple and thyme glazed turkey with cranberry. Desserts options include Thanksgiving classics such as chocolate bourbon pecan pie and pumpkin cheese torte with vanilla wafer crust in addition to Caribbean favorites such as sweet rice pudding with cinnamon dusted almonds. The buffet menu is priced at CI$59 ($72) a person plus a 16% service charge.
The CuisinArt resort’s AAA Four Diamond-rated Le Bistro at Santorini is serving a three-course Thanksgiving feast featuring dishes such as pumpkin coconut bisque and organic apple roasted turkey. Afterwards you can work it off with a round of golf at the resort’s own 18-hole Greg Norman-designed course. Thanksgiving dinner costs $65 per person.
