Wine Dinners, Chocolate Massages, and More in Mexico

January 11, 2013 by

Chocolate massage MexicoMove over, margaritas: Wine is poised to take center stage at an upcoming culinary series of gourmet culinary events at an award-winning property in the Mexican Riviera.

In further proof that the world has not, in fact, ended, Karisma Hotels & Resorts has unveiled its Jackson Family Wines Culinary Series, a brand-new offering for 2013. Held at the adults-only El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas each month, the weeklong program will highlight a different chef and winemaker from the Northern California winery, who will work together to create wine and dine experiences such as tasting and cooking classes, beachside wine parties, and a multi-course winemaker dinner prepared in a thatched roof “culinary theater.”

Sounds like a perfect backdrop for a Valentine’s Day getaway – or a reason to toast a trip to Mexico any other time of year.

The cost for the week-long program is an affordable $300, including all wine and food; not too bad, considering that there are six events, including two elaborate dinners. The next program starts on February 4; room rates at Karisma Hotels & Resorts begin at $229 per person, per night, including all a la carte meals and premium alcoholic drinks.

In the country’s capital, another upscale property, the St. Regis Mexico City, is also preparing to pamper guests with several romance-themed packages and offerings at its swanky Remède Spa, just in time for Valentine’s Day. One of the sweetest is the Chocolate Deluxe, a two-hour indulgence that starts with a hot butter brûlée milk soak in your room, followed by equally sinful steps at the spa itself: a dark chocolate softening mask and, finally, an hour-long, warmed sweet creamy body milk massage.

Two more offerings that Cupid would surely approve of: the Champagne Suite package, which features an hour-long couples massage, either in your room or the spa, using chardonnay massage oil, followed by a private chardonnay bubble bath; and the Red Grand Deluxe package, a 90-minute gourmet pedicure and foot massage that starts with a soak of olive fruit, grapeseed, and cinnamon, followed by a sea salt exfoliation, and, finally, a chilled strawberries and cream foot massage.

(Though we have to note: It’s a good thing the above-mentioned ingredients go on your body and not in it, lest you need to spend the remainder of your time in the gym working them off.)

Nightly rates in February at the St. Regis Mexico City start at $229 for a deluxe room.
