Jackson Hole Ski Resort offers some great deals in anticipation of the first big snowstorms of 2012.

This deal has expired, but be sure to check out our Top 25 deals of the week for savings on trips to destinations around the globe.

It’s the forecast that skiers and snowboarders have been longing for: Big snow is finally on the way this weekend. More than four feet of snow are expected to dump on Jackson Hole, Wyoming – as well as other snow-starved resorts – this weekend, as part of the winter storm fronts that are gearing up to hit the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest. In anticipation of the long-awaited snowfall, two properties in Jackson Hole are offering a 3-night "Storm Chaser" package that includes accommodations, lift tickets, and other perks.

Package deals from Teton Mountain Lodge and Hotel Terra come with a 3-day lift ticket for two adults, a $20 per room breakfast credit, and accommodations, with starting nightly rates from $314 for Teton Mountain Lodge and $339 at Hotel Terra (three night minimum stay required). Considering that adult full-day passes at Jackson Hole cost $85 alone, that’s pretty significant savings. The deal runs through Jan. 31.

So far, the 2012 season has shaped up to be a minor flurry compared to last year’s record-setting snowfalls – meaning that this weekend, slopes should be packed with skiers and boarders champing at the collective bit for some fresh powder.

They’ll get it at Jackson Hole, says Scott McGee, senior manager at Jackson Hole Mountain Sports School. McGee gave me an up-to-the-minute snow report as he was on his way up the mountain via gondola on Wednesday: “It’s coming down hard,” he said, noting that the accumulations over the weekend should put the resort in great shape for what should be its busiest weekend yet of 2012.

Besides Jackson Hole, which already has a 1-2 foot base, several other resorts are offering or extending deals to take advantage of the snow. Here are a few to consider:

  • Winter Park, Co.: Deals are available as low as $67 per person, per night, in the base village and $45 per person, per night, in off-resort accommodations, as part of Winter Park's "4th Night Free” deals.
  • Breckenridge, Co.: The resort’s popular “Breck for a Buck” deal is back, with one night of lodging and one night of skiing for $1 when you book at least three of each. Rates start at $294 per person for lodging and lift tickets.
  • Squaw Valley, Calif.: In anticipation of this weekend's snow, the resort announced its "Stay and Ski Free" deal of $107 per person, per night, including a lift ticket, at its slope-side Village at Squaw property, where each room has a fireplace and full kitchen. The deal is good through Jan. 31.

One word of caution for those who hit the slopes this weekend: Watch out for avalanches. Even though resorts have specific avalanche-control staff in place, fresh snowfall always comes with a higher risk.
