With Memorial Day already in the rear-view mirror, it's time to turn our focus to backyard grilling. Barbecues are a summer staple (if not a completely suitable replacement for real BBQ). While you might think that you can just grab some hot dogs, hamburgers, and lighter fluid and create a memorable event, it's important to realize that preparation is the key to a successful barbecue. We don't grill much at SkyMall Tuesday headquarters because the New York City government frowns upon using charcoal inside of apartment building. That said, we're well-versed in the tools of the trade and know what it takes to put together a backyard feast worth its weight in flank steak. If you're going to man (or woman, as it is 2012) the grill for your friends and family, turn to SkyMall and don the Grill Sergeant BBQ Apron.

When you're in charge of the grill, you have your hands full with flipping, marinating, and imbibing (hey, you work up a thirst standing over that heat). It's hard to stay organized when you have so much going on. You could let someone take over for you, but any grill master worth his salt sauce knows that there can be only one person in charge of the grill and it's poor form to leave your station. That's why you have to keep all of your tools on your person.

Think that most barbecue grills have shelves to store everything that you need? Believe that you can still see someone's torso even if their apron is camouflaged? Well, while you steam a tofu dog, we'll be reading the product description:

Camouflage apron holds 6 bottles or cans, ammo-like, and has a built-in opener and pockets for everything from tools to condiments.

Six bottle or cans seems like a reasonable amount of liquid refreshment to get you through the first hour or so of a barbecue. Just be careful with those condiments when you go to hug someone.

Barbecuing is like anything else in life: proper planning breeds success. Don't just dive headfirst into a barbecue (that's what the pool is for, silly); gather the necessary tools, stay organized, and wear as many liquids as possible on your upper body. Happy summer!
