Looking to explore a new country this fall and partake in some adventure? Getaway to Iceland for three nights from October 1-December 15 for only $777 per person. This package costs the same as current rates for round-trip airfare, essentially making the other components of the trip free. Those components include three nights at the 4-star Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura, round-trip airfare from Boston, New York, or Washington, D.C., a day long excursion that includes a glacier ice walk, a northern lights hunt, and a lobster soup dinner, and daily admission to the Natura Hotel's Soley Spa.

You may dismiss Iceland when brainstorming fall and winter vacations due to it's chilling name. But Iceland is actually quite mild (a modest monthly average temperature of 39°F-45°F in October-December) compared to other Nordic nations like Norway where temperatures can easily dive below freezing at the end of the year. Fall and winter also make for prime viewing of the aurora borealis which is most vivid around the equinoxes (the fall equinox occurs September 22).

After a relatively short over-night flight from the U.S. on Icelandair (flight time from JFK to KEF is 5 hours and 30 minutes), check-in to the newly-renovated Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura, situated in a quiet wooded area near the sea, close to the city center. The hotel seamlessly blends elements of Icelandic nature with modern comforts, featuring an indoor geothermal pool, an onsite restaurant, an HD movie theater, a library, and a sunny patio.

Downtown Reykjavik is an easy twenty minute walk or free shuttle bus away from the Hotel Natura. Iceland's capital is clean, safe, and pedestrian and biker friendly. Explore the city's countless art galleries, boutiques, restaurants and bars. Due to the locals' active lifestyle (a key factor to Iceland's higher-than-average life expectancy) the area is also home to many public pools, fitness centers, and spas, including the famous Blue Lagoon.

The third day of your trip will surely prove to be the most memorable as you'll embark on a northern lights & glacier walk excursion. Depart the hotel on a guided coach and enjoy the scenic ride through Iceland's picturesque south coast which is dotted with farmlands, waterfalls, and mountains. Then strap on crampons and grab an ice pick for a guided walk on a glacier. At sunset, head to a seaside village and indulge in a hearty lobster soup dinner at a famous restaurant. End the tour searching for glimpses of the incredible northern lights.
