The Fairmont Washington D.C. will offer a Roman Holiday Package this spring timed to coincide with the citywide Italian cultural celebration La Dolce D.C. which runs from March 1 through May 30. The celebration promotes several Italian art exhibitions and special stage productions in the city and generally showcases the contributions of Italians to the capitals culture and architecture.
The Fairmonts Roman Holiday Package includes overnight accommodation for two, a three-course Italian dinner for two in Juniper (the hotel restaurant), two tickets to The Phillips Collection, and a DVD of Roman Holiday, the 1953 romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
For those interested in taking advantage of the package deal, there are many events to look forward to during La Dolce D.C. The Phillips Collection will showcase paintings by abstract expressionist Philip Guston from his time as artist-in-residence at the American Academy in Rome (opens Feb. 12-May 15). The National Gallery of Art will show two major Italian art exhibitions: 18th century Venetian paintings by Canaletto and his contemporaries (opens Feb. 20) followed by 65 Italian drawings from the private collection of European Wolfgang Ratjen, dating from the 16th to the 19th century (opens May 15). The Washington National Opera will produce Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti from May 13-27, and the Shakespeare Theatre Company will be performing The Merchant of Venice from March 8-April 12.
