New Napa Events this November Showcase Food and Films

by

Napa Valley wineNapa Valley has long since established its reputation as a wine destination, but the region has far more to offer. A duo of new events debuting this November goes beyond the vineyards.

The Napa Valley Film Festival, running November 9-13, brings a little bit of Sundance to wine country. The festival will host dozens of screenings, with everything from big names like Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, to short films and documentaries. Scheduled events also include Q&A sessions with the filmmakers, and, naturally, wine tastings. Purchase individual tickets at the door for $20, or spring for a $75 day pass or $245 festival pass; some events are free.

The following week, November 17-20, will see the first Flavor! Napa Valley. From small cooking demonstrations to a wine tasting for 1,500 people, with 120 wineries participating, this food and wine extravaganza showcases homegrown Napa talent and Culinary Institute of America graduates. Several celebrity chefs are on board, including Top Chef All-Stars winner Richard Blais and Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Events take place at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, and the CIA at Greystone, in St. Helena; proceeds benefit the CIA’s scholarship fund. Tickets run from $75 to $250, with most costing $95. Various lodging packages are available during the festivities, from $99/night for two nights at the Stevenson Manor Best Western Plus in Calistoga to $275/night at The Inn at Southbridge in St. Helena.
