If you’re looking for the royal treatment in the luxe Cotswold countryside, simply slip in to the newly opened Ellenborough Park Hotel in Cheltenham Spa. This picturesque town has been an English health and holiday resort since the discovery of mineral springs in the early 18th century.
Today the five-star resort, which officially opened its doors May 1st, is located on 90 acres of idyllic pristine green land. The old English manor house is surrounded by quintessential farms filled with sheep grazing in the hilly countryside.
The property pays homage to its former resident, the Earl of Ellenborough, who served as the Governor General of India in the early to mid-19th century. Its full-service, luxurious spa has exotic Eastern and Indian influences in both design and treatment options.
Lord Ellenborough’s attachment to India was reflected in the original design with Indian-style carved handrails and stonework throughout the property. Architect Paul Brook picked up on these design elements, incorporating them into his recent renovation. A combination of modern and historic Eastern influenced pieces together with filigree screens, the coloring of the spa, and a specially commissioned laser cut mosaic mandala design in the tiled entrance to the spa set the tranquil and Eastern theme.
Start your visit in one of the spa's seven serene treatment rooms. Opt for the signature Namaste Treatment, which caters to the whole body, mind, and spirit. Essential oils poured on the head, scalp, and body, coupled with a gentle and firm massage on specific pressure points, are designed to remove blocks and lift spirits.
If an English influence is what you’re after, try the Maritime Salt Exfoliation treatment. Each customized treatment starts with your choice of warm oils drizzled on the back together with the sprinkling of sea salt granules used to gently slough away dead skin cells. The treatment is completed with a final drizzle of essential oils, leaving skin silky smooth. The Ultimate Anti-Aging Facial with plant-based Babor products from Germany is a male and female favorite.
Top that off with a hot and cold rain shower, and a proper high tea in the meticulously restored English manor house. A private post-treatment tea can also be enjoyed in one of Ellenborough’s 64 rooms in a bear claw tub for two. It doesn’t get more regal than that.
