The famously luxe Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort has recently rolled out one of those amenities that’s truly out of this world. Spread out over two islands in the Alif Dhall Atoll of the Maldives, the Conrad is known for (among other things) its underwater restaurant, Ithaa. The all-glass dining room is submerged 16 feet under the ocean and was the first of its kind when it opened five years ago. Dining here is an unforgettable experience in itself (everyone must wear sunglasses at lunch because it gets so bright). But to really step it up, the resort is offering a special opportunity in honor of the restaurant’s fifth anniversary.
Who wants to sleep (and wake up) with the fishes?
Upon request, the resort will transform the restaurant into a private guest suite for one unforgettable night. Imagine lying in bed, far below the Indian Ocean, as reams of fish–surgeon, parrot, jack, clown, and needle–swim by overhead. Picture waking up to the sight of a moray eel or sting ray gracefully gliding by or an ancient sea turtle making its rounds. According to the hotel, guests occasionally see sharks and manta rays too.
Naturally, such an opportunity comes at a price—in this case, $11,710 a night! That rate includes a private champagne dinner as well as breakfast in bed. Could be one heck of a marriage proposal. Or anniversary celebration. Or anything-celebration.
Does this sound transcendent? Scary? Claustrophobic? Absolutely thrilling? Do you think you’d be able to sleep a wink? Would it matter?
