Small Ship Luxury on Silversea's New Spirit

Last month, Silversea launched its newest luxury ship, the Silver Spirit.  This ship is impressive and is the kind of cruise I like to take – a quality, all-inclusive experience that packages all of the amenities and services of a larger vessel into a smaller, more intimate setting (with only 540 guests).  The ship has an Art Deco design that suggests an old world elegance circa 1930 and boasts spacious cabins that might trick you into thinking you’re floating at sea on a five star resort.

Nearly all of the lavish suites feature 2 TVs, butler service, luxury bathrooms and private teak verandas.  While many upscale ships have a mix of fine dining facilities, Spirit’s outdoor option is a standout – providing the feel of being on your own yacht.  As you watch the sun setting over the Caribbean’s still waters, hardly a more special dining experience can be enjoyed.  The wealth of land excursions and on board activities keeps guests busy, and the staff can arrange custom trips as well.

On January 12, Silversea will start accepting reservations for Spirit’s Grand Inaugural Voyage to South America (embarking January 21).  If the 91-day journey (or its $40,000 price tag) falls outside your range, the ship also offers a variety of 7-day voyages (in addition to more traditional, longer ones) throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and South America (click to read about our editor, Elissa's, recent sailing there on the Silver Cloud).  Plus, there is great value pricing, with specials currently running that include 60% off early booking rates and free air – making for a very smart splurge.  I encourage travelers to explore the Silver Spirit as a terrific option for luxury cruising.  But you better hurry – 2010 voyages are over 70% sold out!
