vichy-shower_photos_com2.jpgI’m not a fan of seasonal spa treatments, since most of the products used come from a jar, not a farmer’s market. But I do think that spa treatments should be adjusted for summer. Our skin breaks out more thanks to sun, sweat, and sunscreen, and is more susceptible to irritations (like heat rash) and puffiness (like water retention). Here are some of the treatments you’ll find on summer spa menus that help you beat the heat and its seasonal skin-care woes:

Fruit Enzyme Peel: Enzymes in fruit like papaya and pineapple are effective natural exfoliants that dissolve dead skin-cells (the top layer that sloughs off every month). These gentle peels have no down time, and they help keep pores clear and breakouts at bay while brightening and evening out skin tone.

Cold Stone Facial:
It’s not just a silly spin-off on the popular hot stone massage. When used to massage the face during a facial, the cold stones help reduce irritation, post-extraction puffiness, and tighten the skin for an instant firming effect.

Aloe Vera Body Wrap: These are typically on sunny-resort spa menus where people are likely to get sunburned. But even if you don’t tan, aloe vera is an incredibly hydrating and natural ingredient that cools on contact.

Vichy Shower Treatment:
If it’s done right, a Vichy shower feels like a massage given by the water gods. You lay on a massage table (outfitted with drains) and a multi-jetted rod sprays you from head to toe. It’s often done in conjunction with body scrub.
