Having already made a name for itself in the crowded LGBT tour market with its exclusive Life Ball trip to Vienna and signature Mykonos villa escapes, three-year-old Steele Travel is expanding its luxury group tours this June—to nightclubs. Specifically, a 24-hour “Nightlife Concierge” to cater to participants' hedonistic whims during Tel Aviv's increasingly wild Pride celebration.
From June 4-13, 2010, with an optional three-day Jordan extension (Petra, Aman and more), the inaugural “Milk & Honey” tour aims to be both educational and celebrational, with a distinct two-part itinerary:
The first six days, based out of the five-star Mamilla Hotel Jerusalem, Israel's first modern boutique-style accommodation, include cultural highlights such as a tours of major religious sites and life on a Kibbutz, an all-day workshop with a Kaballah mystic, light adventuring (rappelling, ATV riding), a night in a Bedouin camp and some Dead Sea spa time. The next four days include unwinding on the beaches and in the bars of surprisingly safe, secular and gay-welcoming Tel Aviv.
“Tel Aviv is fast becoming a 'New Ibiza',” explains Josh Wood, a New York City-based party, event and concert promoter and co-organizer of the tour. “It's very secular. It doesn't have a deep culture. There's a lot of nightlife and you have to know where to go. It's not readily apparent.”
To achieve that, Steele has partnered with local gay organization Aguda and promotion firm Shirazi, who promise to tap their hip and happening network for on-the-fly dinner reservations, club entries, and VIP services.
“Gay men's three biggest hobbies are sex, nightlife and travel,” says Dane Steele, president of Steele Travel. “Our company slogan is 'Live Your Indulgence.' We're not for the first-time traveler, but somebody who is educated, a little more sophisticated, engaged in culture, travel, politics, and wants to experience both a cultural and social side of a destination.”
Book before February 20 to save $150 on tour cost ($2995 per person double occupancy; $1200 single supplement).
