"Boardwalk Empire" Takes Over Atlantic City
We’ve had Atlantic City on our radar all summer since naming it one of our Top 10 Boardwalks. So of course we’re excited to hear that HBO’s new series “Boardwalk Empire” – a fictionalized look at Atlantic City gangster life in the 1920s starring Steve Buscemi (premiering September 19) – is taking over AC September 16-19. The main festivities will be at Caesars Atlantic City with a red carpet screening of the first episode on September 16.
Those who can’t score an invite to the exclusive, star-studded event can still enjoy a taste of the gangster lifestyle all weekend long with special $19.20 prix fixe menus and “Boardwalk Empire”-inspired cocktails at over two dozen Atlantic City restaurants. Bonus: On September 18, the Atlantic City Free Public Library will host a talk by Nelson Johnson, whose book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City formed the basis of the HBO series (see the library website for a full list of “Boardwalk Empire”-themed events).
Caesars and sister hotels Harrah’s, Showboat, and Bally’s are also offering an America’s Playground package inspired by the series that includes VIP check-in, a free upgrade on accommodations, a $50 resort credit, and free entry for two to either Dusk or the Pool After Dark nightclubs. Rates vary by hotel – we found rooms at Showboat for September 16 starting at $151/night. The package is available through October 2.
Can’t make it to Atlantic City this month? Never fear – 26 other Harrah’s properties across the U.S will be offering a version of the “Boardwalk Empire” package, from Paris Las Vegas and Caesars Palace to Harrah’s New Orleans Casino and Harrah’s Phoenix Ak-Chin Casino. Check the package website above for details; all packages are available at least through the end of September.

Now that the show has been picked up for a 2nd Season, that means all of the events will happen again. You can now schedule your travel accordingly. A 2nd Season of this show means more money for a depressed Atlantic City economy. 9 times out of 10 2 Seasons means at least 5, so there will be many Boardwalk Empire Seasons to come.
