blowup5050.jpgA totally original and inspiring hotel concept has arrived, not in New York or Paris, but, in central Poland, about three hours from Warsaw. Blow Up Hall 5050 is the next generation in art hotels. Based around the interactive video installation, Blow Up, by Mexican-Canadian artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (his work is also displayed at the MoMA and the Tate), the entire hotel is a living work of art, offering a complete high-tech, sensory experience. Innovation rules here, from making your online reservation (your room assignment is the result of a quick picture, color, and number test ) to check-in (instead of room keys, a pre-loaded iPhone will lead you to your quarters by IT recognition technology; it’s programmed to turn on a TV screen outside your room) to in-room video-taping (yes, it’s how it sounds; you will be filmed but the video feeds are fragmented from one surveillance camera into 2,400 virtual feeds – they appear on the lobby’s interactive collage – to disguise any surreptitious behavior).
