In my efforts to cool down after a morning exploring the historic sites of Beacon Hill, I made my way over to Bostons tony Back Bay neighborhood and ascended to the top of The Colonnade Hotel. I was greeted by a shimmering pool and friendly staff that let me know I had my choice of the lounge chairs and tables that occupy their ample deck. The first order of business after getting situated on a poolside chaise was to place an order from the extensive specialty drink menu. I chose the RTP cooler and was not disappointed; this beverage, a blend of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka and lemonade was simple but satisfying. After an invigorating dip in the pool, I opted for a table to have some lunch al fresco. I just about forgot that I was in New England but was quickly reminded of my location once I inspected the lunch menu. Among substantial entrees like Brasserie Steak and Cheese and lighter fare such as the Heirloom Tomato Salad, was Maine Lobster Roll over Bibb lettuce with herb dressing. I ordered this dish and keeping with the Yankee theme I paired it with a Nantucket Lemonade: Grey Goose Vodka, Cranberry juice, Lime juice, and lemonade.
Aside from the poolside cocktails and dining, the deck of The Colonnade’s Roof Top Pool transforms into a live music venue at points throughout the summer. This summer’s schedule of performers is still in the works but some noteworthy acts that have performed here in the past are Duffy, Papa Roach, and Jewel. It should be noted that on the weekends The Colonnade’s RTP is reserved for hotel guests only, but during the week for a nominal fee of $30 anyone can cool down twelve stories up!
